Solo Procession for Ancestral Womb

Solo Procession for Ancestral Womb traces the journey between the offices of Dr. J. Marion Sims and the Anarcha Betsy Lucy monument at the Mothers of Gynecology Park is approximately 12 minutes on foot and requires the journey to pass the crossroads of Court street and Commerce Avenue. This performance travels the same ancestral paths where Black lives were sold and criminalized. This site-specific ritual installation revisits and extends the work of Lily Water, activating voice through improvisational text, movement, and song, grounded in the Theatrical Jazz tradition.

16 Shot Blues

In late 2015 the autopsy report of Laquan McDonald was released to the public. 16 Shot Blues explores healing from the impact of gun violence and police brutality thru the investigation of the 16 shots aimed at Laquan McDonald. The performance begins with an original song composition. The soundtrack is composed of original text to transform the harm inflicted by each bullet. It is supported by a constant stream of 528 Hz, a binaural beat associated with healing and DNA regeneration, so as to heal the trauma held in the blood memory. Yanvalou and Nago rhythms open and close the piece, to welcome support and ignite and remind us of our warrior spirit and the need to continue to fight against gun violence. Each movement and gesture references McDonalds entrance exit wounds. 16 Shot Blues was composed to transmute the trauma inflicted on the mothers from the viewpoint of the spirit, working toward healing through performance and dance.
